What chemicals are needed for dry cleaning
Dry cleaning has been known since the 19th century. At that time, turpentine and kerosene were used to remove impurities. Today, the technology of dry removal of stubborn stains has changed, as well as the means for it. Let's consider what chemicals are needed for dry cleaning.
Solvents and enhancers
Stain removal solvents are not cleaning agents in themselves. They create an environment in which pollution is eliminated more easily. One of the important characteristics of these substances is their high penetrating power. But if they pass through the fibers of the fabric, they do not remove anything from the surface. Therefore, the second important requirement for high–quality solvents is mechanical resistance. That is, their components pass through the material, but slowly, taking dirt particles with them. The following types are widely used among solvents.
- Perchloroethylene – it has a high density, so it is especially effective in removing animal fats. It easily penetrates into the fibers of the fabric, removes even combined impurities. Suitable for cleaning leather and textile products.
- Solvon is a traditional "KVL" that removes impurities from items made of delicate fabrics, including those decorated with embroidery and other decorative elements.
- SolvonK4 is a relative novelty of the "Kroisler" company. The halogen-free composition makes this solvent safe for humans and the environment if the instructions are followed. It is not inferior in efficiency to perchloroethylene. Removes stains even from white fabrics, does not wash out dyes from colored things and does not spoil the fur. It is the only polar solvent and due to this it perfectly copes with water-soluble contaminants, including on natural fabrics.
Solvents can handle a small amount of contamination. Reagents, enhancers and activators, as well as pretreatment products, help to eliminate all stains. These include:
- Peramon – stabilizes solvent in dry cleaning machines, combines with perchloroethylene, silicone, etc.;
- Clip Cons Asept – dry cleaning booster concentrate with pronounced antistatic and disinfecting properties;
- Prenette Pour – A safe booster for stripping sensitive fabric and leather products. Suitable for perchloroethylene and hydrocarbon solvents.
