THE PERFECT GUIDE TO A HOSPITAL LAUNDRY SYSTEM

Are your laundry costs increasing every month? Do your patients and staff notice that the bed linen is faded or stained? Does your laundry staff constantly feel like they're in a race against time?

Whether it's a small nursing home, a medium-sized specialized clinic, or even a large public hospital, the same question haunts every administrator. How can I create a washing system that is safe, effective, and always meets medical standards? The answer is simple.

Today we will share with you a seven-step plan that transforms stress-prone and infection-prone hospital laundries into an efficient, hygienic environment with minimal costs. These are not just theories. These are several proven actions followed by leading medical institutions in order to meet the standards of the Indian National Council for Hospital and Healthcare Provider Accreditation (NABH) and the World Health Organization (World Health Organization) while reducing costs. Let's create your perfect hospital laundry system!

Step one - calculate your load. As in medicine, the diagnosis is made before the start of treatment. So, let's calculate the daily load of the laundry. In specialized hospitals, the daily amount of linen is usually calculated based on the average amount of linen per bed. In premium class hospitals, a reliable guideline is 8 kg of linen per bed per day, including bed linen and other linens, patient and doctor's robes, other staff uniforms, blankets, and more.

If there are 300 beds in such a hospital, then the total daily laundry load is 300 per 8 kg, which is 2,400 kg per day. When working in one eight-hour shift, the actual hourly load of the laundry will be 300 kg per hour. This 300 kg per hour is your golden number and the basis for creating an effective system.

Step two - rational distribution. In hospitals, batch planning is not only about efficiency, but also about fighting infection. Divide the 300 kg per hour you received earlier into three categories. First. All infected laundry is handled by barrier washing machines. The second one. Semi-disinfected or ordinary linen. And the third is doctors' robes, staff uniforms, and other similar underwear.

This separation avoids cross-contamination and reduces the overall laundry processing time.

Step three – selection of equipment. Choose your equipment the same way you choose surgical instruments. Precisely and with a margin of safety, taking into account the required actual productivity of 300 kg per hour.

Two barrier washing machines with a load of 60 kg each for all types of contaminated laundry. Two front-loading washing machines of 60 kg each for regular laundry. Two front-mounted washing machines with a 30 kg load for uniforms and small items. And one washing and drying column with a load of 10 kg for other small batches of laundry.

The productivity of dryers ranges from 50 to 60% of the washing capacity in a hospital. Since all straight linen can be processed directly on ironing machines, bypassing pre-drying. 50% of 300 kg/hour is 150 kg of laundry per hour for drying. The best choice here are 2 drying drums with a load of 60 kg and one for 30 kg.

Step four - hygienic finishing. In hospitals, the final stage is not a luxury. It's about hygiene, laundry sterilization, and patient comfort. Ironing and drying machines are essential for all bedding. Heating helps to destroy the remaining pathogenic microorganisms, while providing a high-quality professional finish.

STEFAB offers a wide range of powerful ironing machines for direct laundry with one, two and three shafts, which are available in various heating options such as electric, gas and steam. For the 300-bed premium hospital in question, a two-roll ironing calender with a shaft diameter of 800 mm and a working width of 3300 mm is an excellent choice. This machine configuration allows you to iron laundry in two lines (while feeding the laundry with a narrow side), using from 90 to 95% of the ironing surface area. The result is a highly efficient system that provides maximum performance and low power consumption.

Step five - necessary additional equipment. Properly selected auxiliary equipment saves time and prevents mistakes. These are folding bed linen and folding terry towels, stain-removing tables to combat difficult-to-remove stains, ironing tables, presses and mannequins for staff uniforms, as well as various types of trolleys of different sizes, ensuring uninterrupted internal logistics in the laundry. Think about it before the problems escalate into a critical situation.

Step six – proper layout. Proper layout of hospital laundries saves lives. It is always designed for zero possibility of contamination transfer. This means that barrier washing machines are installed in the wall between dirty and clean rooms, which creates a physical separation of infection zones. Contaminated laundry is loaded from one side of the machines, and clean laundry is unloaded from the other. There is no flow overlap - there is no pollution transfer.

Step seven – advantages of electric heating equipment. Electrical systems are not only environmentally friendly. They ensure safety for the hospital environment. Electric heating of washing machines more accurately maintains the programmed temperature and time cycles of washing. Which fully complies with national disinfection standards and the standards of the World The World Health Organization (WHO), ensuring the absence of harmful pathogens in every load of laundry. This makes STEFAB barrier washing machines with electric heating an indispensable line of defense against nosocomial infections.

The STEFAB company offers washing and drying machines with electric heating loading up to 120 kg. They combine hygiene with ease of use. There are no complex engineering systems – steam generators, steam and condensate mains, gas mains and a special chimney. There is no risk of unstable heating and maintenance costs are significantly reduced.

Equip your laundry with a powerful 30 kW electric ironing machine and you will receive laundry that is not only well ironed, but also safe for use by patients.

Such a set of equipment provides you with complete confidence in meeting the requirements of infection control, reduces operating costs by 25-30% compared to outsourcing, allows you to instantly cope with emergency loads yourself and guarantees the comfort and safety of patients.

More than a thousand hospitals have already transformed their laundries with the help of STEFAB. They meet all medical standards without constant dependence on third-party commercial laundries.
