Zurich Municipal Laundry: laundry with good intentions!

The municipal laundry, run by the "Soziale Einrichtungen und Betriebe" (social services) in Zurich, employs those who receive social benefits for unemployment or disability benefits, which helps them return to working life.
The company offers first-class laundry, drying and ironing services. To ensure and maintain the highest possible quality standards, laundry facilities Schulthess. Individual and simple machine management, as well as the highest level of customer service provided by Schulthess, ensure that the laundry is working with the right partner every day.

The laundry of the city of Zurich is a special enterprise. As a market-based organization, it provides a chance for about 50 employees to return to a "normal working life." The laundry is open five days a week, with three shifts – four hours each shift. The supervisor attaches particular importance to manual labor skills, such as hand ironing, darning, or sewing buttons. As a social service, the laundry helps to train employees not only in manual labor, but also in social skills: from arriving at work on time, building full-fledged working relationships with each other, and following the formal job application procedure. The laundry operates in several municipal premises in Zurich, catering to the needs of its customers, as well as attracting private clients such as Spitex and catering companies. 700 kilograms of laundry are processed every day, which is 180 tons per year.

User-friendly machines.
Using a well-developed logistics system, laundry is sorted upon arrival and sent to the appropriate Schulthess washing machines. This procedure is very important and helps to eliminate errors when handing out laundry to customers. Schulthess machines are an ideal solution for various types of fabrics that need washing. Individually programmable machines allow staff to wash them on their own. Any language barriers between workers are easily overcome due to the washing parameters stored in the machine. Thanks to the optimal spatial layout of the machines, developed in collaboration with the company, the washed laundry is conveniently and easily transported to the Schulthess dryers, where it is carefully and quickly dried. The finishing of the laundry is carried out on steam mannequins and Schulthess ironing systems. Schulthess conducts annual training courses, where it provides laundry staff with valuable recommendations on how to work with machines. One of the nice things is that the excess heat generated by the dryers is used to heat the water for the washing machines – which has a beneficial effect on the budget.

First-class Schulthess services.
Beatrix Jakob, Head of Laundry, is very pleased with Schulthess' decision: "Although the machines seem to be expensive at first glance, you end up with reliable and durable machines, as well as first-class service." In particular, she is impressed by the fact that Schulthess takes any issue seriously and offers customized, customer-oriented solutions. In her opinion, the company also deserves high praise for its professionalism and friendly relations with customers. Jacob knows what the name Schulthess means to her: "A company that has been offering first-class services for decades. We've never had any problems."
