A course for stabilization! WITH ALKANON!

Consumers judge the quality of a dry cleaning service by the cleanliness and freshness of the products, and these criteria are directly related to the condition of the machine and the solvent.
Perchloroethylene It is thermally stable up to 150 ° C. At a higher temperature or in the presence of moisture, it decomposes to form acidic products (primarily hydrochloric acid – HCl).
Technical perchloroethylene contains some acid and has an acidic environment (pH ≥ 5.5). Its use in a dry cleaning machine is unacceptable, as this definitely leads to corrosion of the equipment.
It is allowed, as indicated in any accompanying documentation for the dry cleaning machine, to use only perchloroethylene classified as "stabilized for dry cleaning". It differs from the technical one in that it contains special stabilizing additives based on derivatives of amines or phenols, providing an optimal neutral value of acidity (pH = 7.5).
During the operation of the machine, especially during distillation with a direct steam phase, these additives are exhausted, which leads to an increase in the acidity of the solvent and, if protective measures are not taken, to corrosion of the equipment. Figure 1 shows examples of corrosion of various metals in a dry cleaning machine, depending on the method of solvent stabilization.

To maintain the acidity at a safe level, it is necessary to use special preparations. For example, ALKANON absorbs and neutralizes acidic decomposition products in the distiller, while achieving an optimal pH value of 7.2-7.8. ADSORBON, a new generation filter powder, stabilizes the solvent during the filtration cycle.
In 5th generation machines with a fully closed cycle (equipped with an automatic cleaning system), the PERAMON liquid stabilizer should be used.
Figure 2 shows a graph of changes in the acidity of perchloroethylene when using the ALKANON stabilizer.

Solvent samples were taken from a dry cleaning machine, which was filled and topped up using "perchloroethylene stabilized for dry cleaning." Other stabilizers have not been used before.
An area of acidity with a pH value from 7.0 to 8.5 is considered relatively safe; a pH value from 7.3 to 8.0 is considered absolutely safe.
Proper use of stabilizers helps to avoid corrosion of the equipment (especially the distiller and the drying tunnel) and unpleasant odors in the system. Therefore:
• Use the distiller cleaning and drying programs provided by the manufacturer.;
• Do not forget to clean the water separator regularly;
• Do not use surrogate stabilizers (such as chalk or marble); this may lead to alkaline corrosion.
These simple and easy-to-follow rules can significantly extend the service life of the equipment and improve the overall cleaning quality.
